Former Vice President Kamala Harris told a crowd of young voters at Clark Atlanta University on Thursday that their generation holds the power to decide Georgia's fiercely contested Senate race, urging them to turn frustration with the Trump administration into votes in the final days before the November 3 midterm elections. The Harris Ossoff Georgia rally, staged for student canvassers five days before Election Day, became one of the Democrats' most pointed closing appeals to the young voters both parties now see as decisive in Georgia.

Harris joined Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, who is fighting for re-election against Republican Representative Mike Collins, at the historically Black university in Atlanta. The event was deliberately aimed at the volunteers who will spend the closing weekend knocking on doors and driving turnout, and Harris used it to frame the vote as a test of whether young Americans will let others define their future or define it themselves.

Key Points

• Kamala Harris rallied student canvassers for Senator Jon Ossoff at Clark Atlanta University on Thursday, October 29, 2026, five days before the November 3 midterms.
• Harris told Gen Z voters: "This is the moment where we turn that anger into action," adding that they have "everything at stake" in the election.
• Ossoff told the crowd Georgia has "already shattered every turnout record for young voters in a midterm election in Georgia's history."
• Neither Harris nor Ossoff mentioned Republican opponent Mike Collins by name; Collins hit back from Carrollton, calling Harris "a failed candidate" and "a failed vice president."
• Harris stayed in metro Atlanta for the final day of early voting, addressing the Fulton County Democrats' dinner on Friday night after a Thursday evening NAACP town hall.

What Happened

The rally took place on Thursday at Clark Atlanta University, where Harris addressed Ossoff's campaign volunteers and students from across the Atlanta University Center, including Morehouse and Spelman. It was a small, volunteer-focused event rather than a stadium spectacle, and Harris opened it with a warm-up that immediately drew attention. "Let's hear it for Jon Ossoff," she said, before adding, "The next … and continuing senator from the state of Georgia," a brief stumble she corrected in the same breath, drawing laughter from the crowd.

From there, Harris moved quickly to her central message: young voters should not wait for permission to shape the country. "Don't ever let anybody take your power from you. Don't ever let anybody tell you who you are. You tell them who you are," she said, in remarks later shared widely online. "This is the moment where we turn that anger into action. And in particular Gen Z," she added. "You have everything at stake and you have a right to weigh in and tell people what you want. And that's what you are doing this election season."

Harris told the students she wanted them to know they deserved the best, but that it would not arrive on its own. "It will not be because people give it to you, it will be because you fight for it. Because you are active in letting people know what you need and what you want. And so at election time. That's about your vote," she said. She also thanked the volunteers directly, telling them: "I came here today to thank you in advance for all you will do in your lifetime," and describing them as members of what she called the "Role Model Club."

"In the Role Model Club, we are all in it, and in the Role Model Club sometimes it can be weighty," Harris said. "But the thing about being a role model is in the process of pursuing your excellence, with all the hard work that requires, you are lifting up folks you don't even know." When supporters urged her to keep going after she appeared to finish, she laughed and returned to the microphone: "OK, I got some more advice."

Background and Context

Georgia is one of the most closely watched Senate battlegrounds of the 2026 midterms, and Ossoff's seat is central to the fight for control of the chamber. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to win back the Senate majority from Republicans, and Georgia, with its rapidly growing and diversifying electorate, has become a must-win state for both parties. Ossoff, first elected in a January 2021 runoff, has built his re-election campaign around turnout, betting that energised young and Black voters can carry him past Collins.

The numbers so far suggest that bet has some foundation. Georgia broke its state midterm record for early in-person voting on October 29, and women cast about 56 percent of all ballots in Georgia by that date, according to early-voting data. Nationally, the University of Florida's Election Lab had recorded 47,922,669 early votes by midday on October 30, surpassing the previous midterm record of about 45.9 million cast ahead of Election Day in 2022. A recent poll from Harvard Kennedy School's Institute of Politics found likely voters aged 18 to 29 heavily favouring Democrats, a finding the Ossoff campaign is counting on in the final stretch.

Harris's Georgia swing was part of a wider final-week tour for Democrats. She campaigned in Macon earlier in the week, where she criticised the Trump administration over rising living costs and told supporters: "We have a moment now to turn pain into purpose." On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama also spoke in Georgia in support of Ossoff, criticising Trump's handling of the economy and his approach to the war in Iran. On Thursday evening, after the Clark Atlanta rally, Harris attended an NAACP-hosted town hall at Elizabeth Baptist Church, and she remained in the metro Atlanta area for the final day of early voting, addressing the Fulton County Democrats' Fulton Forward dinner on Friday night.

Harris Ossoff Georgia Rally: The Attack on Trump

The sharpest passages of Harris's speech were aimed squarely at the administration she served against in the 2024 presidential election. "We need Jon back in the United States Senate to hold this administration accountable to the people," Harris said. "We have in the administration in Washington, D.C., a level of brutality, like we have never seen." In fuller remarks, she described "a level of brutality like we have never seen, a level of ignorance like we have never seen. A level of cruelty like we have never seen."

Harris and Ossoff framed the election as a referendum on reining in President Donald Trump, criticising his tariffs, cuts to Medicaid and food assistance, and the war in Iran. Harris attacked what she called "reckless tariffs" and a "war nobody asked for," while Ossoff aimed at household costs. "Now you pay more for everything, the president and his family are lining their pockets to billions of dollars," Ossoff said. The two avoided naming Collins at all during the event, a choice that kept the focus on Trump and on turnout rather than on their direct opponent.

Ossoff's own pitch leaned on the turnout story. "By far, we have already shattered every turnout record for young voters in a midterm election in Georgia's history," he told the crowd, presenting the student volunteers in front of him as proof that the campaign's ground game was working. Students leaving the rally said they were heading straight out to mobilise voters around the area as early voting drew to a close. "The message was really about making sure that everybody else gets out to vote," said Alexis Taylor, a student at the event. Another student volunteer summed up the mood in five words: "We got five days, let's do it!"

Reactions and Quotes

The reaction from the Collins campaign came within hours, and it was deliberately dismissive. Speaking to supporters at a campaign stop in Carrollton, Collins seized on Harris's presence as evidence that Democrats were desperate. "That's all you have to say. He brought Kamala Harris in," Collins said. "You know, Kamala Harris was a failed candidate. She was a failed vice president. A border czar who never went to the border. So they can campaign all they want together. The people of the state are seeing that as well, and that's just energizing us as well."

Democratic supporters, by contrast, treated the rally as a morale boost in a race where every point of youth turnout matters. Harris's "turn that anger into action" line circulated widely on social media after the event, and clips of her "Role Model Club" remarks were shared by campaign volunteers as a call to keep canvassing through the weekend. Harris has campaigned for Democrats in Nevada, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Wisconsin in recent days, and her Georgia stop underlined how heavily the party is leaning on her to energise its base in the final days.

The same day also showed how crowded the final-week map has become. While Harris campaigned in Atlanta, President Trump held a rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, backing Senator Darline Graham in her competitive re-election race against Democrat Annie Andrews. Vice President JD Vance headlined a midterm rally in Weatherford, Texas, in support of Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton. On Friday, Trump campaigned in Daytona Beach, Florida, before restoring weekend rallies in Kansas and Iowa that he had cancelled a day earlier.

Why It Matters

The Clark Atlanta rally matters because it reveals where both parties believe the 2026 midterms will be won: not just in television advertising, but in the turnout of voters who have historically sat out midterm elections. Young voters are the largest and least predictable bloc in the electorate, and Georgia's early-voting records suggest they are engaging this year at unusual levels. If that surge holds through Election Day, it could tip not only Ossoff's race but the broader fight for the Senate, where a handful of seats will decide control of the chamber for the final two years of Trump's presidency.

It also matters because Harris remains one of the few Democratic figures who can command national attention for a Senate race in a single afternoon. Her presence in Atlanta drew coverage far beyond Georgia, turning a volunteer rally into a national story about Gen Z, turnout and accountability. For Ossoff, that attention is valuable; for Collins, the chance to run against Harris as much as against Ossoff is valuable too, which is why his Carrollton response attacked her record rather than engaging with the rally's policy arguments.

Finally, the rally underscored the contrasting closing strategies of the two parties. Democrats are leaning on high-profile surrogates, campus mobilisation and early-vote records to build a turnout wave. Republicans, led by Trump, are leaning on a blitz of rallies in states they won comfortably in 2024 but where Democrats are now competitive. Both strategies will be tested on Tuesday, when the early-vote records either translate into a decisive result or dissolve into the usual midterm pattern.

What Happens Next

Early voting in Georgia concludes ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, and both campaigns will spend the weekend in a final turnout push. Harris's Friday night address to the Fulton County Democrats closes her Atlanta stay, while Ossoff's volunteers will fan out across the metro area and college campuses. Collins, meanwhile, will continue to campaign on the argument that Georgia voters have already rejected Harris once, in 2024, and should reject her party's Senate candidate now.

National attention will then shift to the count. Georgia's Senate race is expected to be close, and with control of the Senate potentially hinging on a handful of contests, the result may not be clear on election night. What is already clear is that young voters have voted early in record numbers in Georgia. Whether they voted in sufficient numbers to return Ossoff to the Senate is the question Tuesday will answer.
