The Tallahassee shootings continued into Sunday morning, November 1, 2026, when a man arrived at a hospital off Thomasville Road with a gunshot wound, the latest incident in a violent stretch that has left at least 17 people shot in seven incidents in the Florida capital since October 24. The man's injuries were not considered life-threatening, the Leon County Sheriff's Office told the Tallahassee Democrat, but investigators did not immediately know where or how he was shot, and no other details about the circumstances were immediately available. It is the seventh shooting incident in eight days in a city still reckoning with a homecoming mass shooting that wounded 11 people, including six children.

What Happened

The Leon County Sheriff's Office received a call at around 7 a.m. on Sunday about an adult man who had arrived at a hospital off Thomasville Road with a gunshot wound, a sheriff's office spokesperson told the Tallahassee Democrat. Because investigators have not yet determined where the man was wounded, it was not immediately clear whether the shooting occurred within Tallahassee city limits or elsewhere in Leon County, and the case is being investigated by the sheriff's office rather than Tallahassee police. No suspect, motive or weapon has been publicly identified in connection with Sunday's shooting, and police asked anyone with information to call Crime Solvers anonymously at 850-574-TIPS, or to submit a tip through the sheriff's office website.

The shooting came hours after the most serious incident of the weekend so far. Early Saturday, a man was shot and killed at Jackson Lodge on Apalachee Parkway. Tallahassee police later arrested a 25-year-old man on a second-degree murder charge in connection with that killing, the Democrat reported. No further details about the victim, the arrested man or what led to the shooting at the lodge had been released in the reporting reviewed for this article, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Sunday's incident is the latest in a sequence that began with the mass shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium on October 24, following the university's homecoming football game, in which 11 people were injured, including six children. A 15-year-old, Anthony Rivers III, was later charged as an adult over that attack, facing 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and a count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, in a case US News Pulse has previously covered. The violence did not stop there. Gunfire was reported again the following evening at a Walgreens in northeast Tallahassee, though police and prosecutors quickly determined it was a Stand Your Ground case that began in the parking lot after a man aggressively approached another man, who allegedly shot him in self-defence.

Background/Context

The days that followed filled out a grim pattern. A man was wounded the next morning in a shooting in the 1000 block of Bronough Street, about which few details are known. Then, on October 27, a person was wounded at the West 10 student apartments on West Tennessee Street, a shooting police later determined was an accidental discharge rather than an intentional shooting, according to previous Democrat reporting. On Wednesday, October 28, another man was critically wounded in a shooting at Magnolia Terrace Apartments on Magnolia Drive, where a witness said a man was shot in the head by someone in a vehicle before the car sped off. Saturday's fatal shooting at Jackson Lodge and Sunday's hospitalisation off Thomasville Road bring the count, as tallied by the Democrat, to at least 17 people shot in seven incidents since October 24, though police determined one was an accidental discharge and another was a Stand Your Ground case.

That eight-day toll sits inside a much larger year for gun violence in the capital city. So far in 2026, 14 people have been killed and 48 have been injured in at least 53 serious shootings in Tallahassee and Leon County, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence that tracks incidents involving injury, death or a clear risk of serious harm. The figure covers the city and the county together, and it counts only serious shootings, which means it understates the total number of times guns have been fired in the area. Even so, it shows a city in which a shooting every few days has become the norm, and in which a single violent weekend can add several victims to a toll that was already high before homecoming.

Tallahassee Shootings: A Week of Gunfire in the Capital

The Tallahassee shootings of the past week are not one story but several, and that is part of what makes them hard to police and hard to explain. The homecoming mass shooting was a public, crowded attack after a football game, with child victims and a teenage suspect charged as an adult. The Walgreens shooting the next night was, by the authorities' account, a self-defence confrontation in a parking lot. The West 10 shooting was an accident. The Magnolia Terrace shooting was a drive-by style attack that left a man critically wounded. The Jackson Lodge shooting ended with a murder arrest. Sunday's shooting, so far, is a man in hospital with a wound and no known scene, no known shooter and no known motive. Lumping them together as a single crime wave would mislead, but counting them together is still necessary, because together they describe what residents of Tallahassee have lived through in the past eight days.

The geography matters too. The incidents stretch from the FAMU campus area to northeast Tallahassee, from Bronough Street and West Tennessee Street to Magnolia Drive and Apalachee Parkway, and now to a hospital off Thomasville Road where the victim arrived rather than where he was shot. That spread, across city and county lines, is why Sunday's case sits with the sheriff's office rather than city police, and why investigators are still trying to establish even the basic fact of where the shooting happened. For residents, the practical advice from police remains the same in every case: anyone with information, photographs or video should contact Crime Solvers anonymously at 850-574-TIPS.

Reactions/Quotes

No official statement from Tallahassee police or the Leon County Sheriff's Office beyond the facts reported by the Democrat was available in the reporting reviewed for this article, and this article invents none. The sheriff's office confirmed only the time of the call, the hospital location and the non-life-threatening assessment of Sunday's victim, and said the investigation remains ongoing. Tallahassee police have previously confirmed the Jackson Lodge arrest on a second-degree murder charge, but have not publicly released further details about that case in the reporting reviewed here.

What the record does show is how the authorities have characterised each incident as it emerged, and those characterisations matter. The Walgreens case was determined to be a Stand Your Ground case, the West 10 case an accidental discharge, and the homecoming case a mass shooting leading to adult charges against a 15-year-old. Those distinctions are the difference between a crime, a lawful act of self-defence and an accident, and they are why police are careful not to describe Sunday's shooting beyond what is known: a man wounded, a hospital arrival, an investigation under way. Further details, including the victim's identity, the location of the shooting and any suspect information, will be added to this coverage as the sheriff's office releases them.

Why It Matters

This matters because the numbers, even stripped of detail, describe a public safety problem that is not confined to one night or one neighbourhood. Seventeen people shot in seven incidents in eight days, on top of 14 killed and 48 injured in at least 53 serious shootings so far this year, is a toll that would strain any city's police, hospitals and neighbourhoods. It matters also because the victims include children: six of the 11 people wounded in the homecoming shooting were juveniles, and the suspect charged in that case is himself 15. A city in which teenagers are both victims and suspects in mass shootings is facing a problem that arrests alone, however quickly they come, will not solve.

It matters, finally, because of what is still unknown. In Sunday's case, investigators do not yet know where the man was shot, which means they do not yet know whether there is a scene to secure, witnesses to find or a shooter still at large in a particular area. That uncertainty is itself a public safety fact, and it is why the sheriff's office has appealed for tips. Until the scene is identified, the public cannot judge whether Sunday's shooting is connected to any of the week's earlier incidents, and the authorities have not suggested any such connection.

What Happens Next

The Leon County Sheriff's Office investigation into Sunday's shooting continues, with the location of the shooting, the identity of the victim and any suspect information still to be established. The Jackson Lodge murder case will move through the courts, with the 25-year-old arrested on a second-degree murder charge facing prosecution in Leon County. The homecoming mass shooting case against the 15-year-old charged as an adult will also proceed, with the adult charges carrying far more serious consequences than a juvenile case would.

For Tallahassee as a whole, the next test is whether the pace of the past eight days slows. Halloween weekend, homecoming and the start of a new month have all coincided in a period when large crowds gather late at night, and police will be watching whether the return to a normal week brings a return to a lower, though still serious, rate of shootings. This article will be updated if the sheriff's office identifies the location or a suspect in Sunday's shooting, or if further details emerge about the Jackson Lodge case.
