Greenacres plane crash update: all nine people aboard the Learjet that crashed into a mobile home neighbourhood in Greenacres, Florida, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, were killed, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has confirmed. The confirmation, reported by USA Today and the Palm Beach Post on Sunday afternoon, replaces the uncertainty that surrounded the casualty toll in the first hours after the crash, when officials had confirmed an incident and a mass-casualty response but had not confirmed how many of those aboard had died.

As of 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, there had been no confirmation of fatalities among people on the ground, according to the same reports. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, with the NTSB in charge of the investigation and due to provide all further updates. The identities of the nine people aboard had not been released at the time of the confirmation.

What Happened

The Learjet 60 crashed into a mobile home neighbourhood around 12:50 p.m. ET on Sunday, in the area of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, according to USA Today and the Palm Beach Post. The impact caused major destruction, including fires and scattered debris, and posts on social media showed a wide area marked by fires, debris and what appeared to be a crater in the ground.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue had earlier declared a mass-casualty incident and warned residents to avoid the area, saying it would be an extended incident. All northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail in the area of Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North were closed, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office advised motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The FAA confirmed the aircraft was a Learjet 60 that had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. Flight-tracking data from ADS-B Exchange, reported by CNN, showed the aircraft descending 27,000 feet in one minute just before tracking cut off — a detail that investigators will examine closely, though no cause has been determined and officials have not attributed the crash to any single factor.

Weather in the West Palm Beach area on Sunday afternoon was overcast, with rain and lightning in the area and winds from the east at 15 mph, gusting to near 25 mph, according to USA Today. The National Weather Service in Miami put visibility at 7 miles. Whether weather played any role is a question for the NTSB investigation, and no official has linked conditions to the crash.

The crash site is about four miles south of the airport in West Palm Beach, which was renamed for President Donald Trump earlier this year. Trump had been in West Palm Beach earlier on Sunday but departed on Air Force One a little more than one hour before the crash, according to CNN's reporting.

Background/Context

Sunday's confirmation is the third stage of a fast-moving story that US News Pulse has covered since the crash. The first report, published on Sunday afternoon Dhaka time, covered the crash itself: a private jet down in a mobile home park in Greenacres, a mass-casualty declaration, road closures, and multiple fatalities reported but not yet confirmed by officials, with the number aboard and any ground casualties still unknown.

A follow-up report then added the FAA's confirmation of the aircraft and route: a Learjet 60 with nine aboard, from Austin-Bergstrom to North Eleuthera, with the ADS-B descent data and the investigation details, but still no confirmed fatalities as of 3:30 p.m. ET. Duffy's confirmation on Sunday afternoon is the development that changes that picture: all nine aboard are now confirmed dead, while ground casualties remain unconfirmed.

The Learjet 60 is a midsize business jet, typically configured for around eight or nine occupants including crew, and it is widely used for charter and private flights in the United States and the Caribbean. The planned route from Austin to North Eleuthera, in the Bahamas, is a routine private-flight sector, and the aircraft was on its way to the Bahamas when it came down in Palm Beach County.

Investigations of this kind follow a set pattern in the United States. The NTSB leads the investigation, with the FAA supporting it, and early statements focus on confirmed facts — the aircraft, the route, the number aboard, the weather — rather than causes. A preliminary report usually follows within weeks, with a final report, including a probable cause, taking far longer. Families of those aboard are normally notified before names are released publicly, which is why no identities had been published at the time of Duffy's confirmation.

Greenacres Plane Crash: What the Confirmation Changes

Duffy's statement matters because it ends the most painful uncertainty for the families of those aboard: whether anyone on the aircraft survived. In the first hours after a crash into a residential neighbourhood, attention is split between the aircraft and the homes it struck, and officials are careful not to confirm deaths until they have verified them. The confirmation that all nine aboard died, with no ground fatalities confirmed as of 4 p.m., gives the story its first settled casualty picture, even as the investigation itself is only beginning.

It also reframes the questions investigators must answer. With nine deaths aboard and, so far, no confirmed deaths on the ground, the focus turns to what happened in the aircraft's final minute — the steep descent shown in tracking data — and to whether the crew issued any distress call, what the weather was doing at the moment of the descent, and what the wreckage itself reveals. Those are NTSB questions, and they will not be answered by speculation in the first days.

For the Greenacres neighbourhood, the confirmation is only part of the story. Residents of the mobile home park saw fires, debris and a crater in their community, and road closures on Military Trail disrupted the area well into Sunday evening. Even with no ground fatalities confirmed, the damage to homes and the trauma for residents will take far longer to address than the casualty count, and local authorities will need to account for displaced residents and damaged properties in the days ahead.

The crash also comes at a moment of intense attention on Palm Beach County, where the president had been earlier in the day and where the airport itself carries his name. That context does not change the facts of the crash, but it explains why a local aviation accident drew national coverage within hours — and why federal officials, including the transportation secretary, were confirming details on a Sunday afternoon.

Reactions/Quotes

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said all nine people on board the plane were killed, according to USA Today and the Palm Beach Post. The same reports noted that, as of 4 p.m. ET on November 1, "there has been no confirmation of fatalities from people on the ground."

USA Today reported: "All nine people on board a Learjet were killed Nov. 1 after the plane crashed near Greenacres, Florida, according to federal authorities," and that "the plane crashed into a mobile home neighborhood around 12:50 p.m. ET in the area of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, causing major destruction, including fires and scattered debris."

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the incident "closed all lanes of Military Trail in the area of Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North" and advised motorists to avoid the area. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue had earlier declared a mass-casualty incident and warned: "Avoid the area. This will be an extended incident."

CNN reported that the FAA and NTSB will investigate, that "the NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates," and that tracking data showed the aircraft descending 27,000 feet in one minute before tracking cut off. CNN also reported that Trump had departed Palm Beach on Air Force One "a little more than one hour before this crash."

Why It Matters

Nine deaths in a single business-jet crash is a major aviation accident by any measure, and it matters first and foremost for the nine people who died and their families, whose names had not yet been released. Business-jet crashes into residential areas are rare, and each one prompts the same urgent questions: what failed, what the crew knew, and whether anything on the ground could have been done differently.

It matters for the Greenacres community as well. A crash into a mobile home neighbourhood is not an abstract aviation story for the people who live there: it is fires in their streets, debris in their yards, a crater in their neighbourhood, and a road closure that cut through their Sunday. The fact that no ground deaths had been confirmed as of Sunday afternoon is fortunate, but it does not erase the damage or the shock.

It matters for aviation safety more broadly. The NTSB investigation will examine the aircraft's maintenance and operational history, the crew, the weather, air traffic communications and the wreckage, and its findings — first in a preliminary report, later in a final report — will inform whether any safety recommendations follow. Until then, the steep descent in the final minute of tracking data is the detail investigators and the public will return to most often, precisely because it is so stark and so unexplained.

What Happens Next

The NTSB will lead the on-scene investigation in the coming days, documenting the wreckage, recovering the flight recorders if the aircraft carried them, and interviewing witnesses and air traffic controllers. The FAA will support that work. Investigators will also work to confirm the identities of those aboard and to establish whether anyone on the ground was injured, as the casualty picture for residents is still not fully settled.

Military Trail is expected to remain affected until investigators and clean-up crews have finished their work, and residents whose homes were damaged will need support from local authorities and, where applicable, insurers. US News Pulse will update this story when the NTSB issues its preliminary report, when the identities of those aboard are released, and when any further ground-casualty information is confirmed.

Anyone with information or video relating to the crash has been asked by police in similar investigations to come forward through official channels, and residents are advised to avoid the crash site while the investigation continues.
