Luka Doncic delivered another monster night on Sunday, scoring 45 points with a season-high 15 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors at Crypto.com Arena, before a late Toronto rally turned a comfortable win into a nervous finish. The Slovenian star hit eight three-pointers, added six assists, five steals and a block in 35 minutes, and extended his early lead in the NBA scoring race with at least 37 points in a fourth consecutive game.

Key Points

• Luka Doncic scored 45 points, with 15 rebounds, six assists and five steals, as the Lakers beat the Raptors 131-125 on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
• Doncic shot 12 of 23 from the field and hit eight three-pointers, including a 16-point first quarter with four three-pointers.
• Austin Reaves added 19 points and Walker Kessler had 16 points and 15 rebounds for Los Angeles, who improved to 5-2.
• Scottie Barnes scored 29 points and RJ Barrett added 22 for Toronto, who fell to 3-3 after opening a four-game road trip.
• The Lakers led 102-76 late in the third quarter before Toronto cut the deficit to single digits, forcing Doncic and the starters back into the game.

What Happened

From the opening minutes, Doncic set the tone. He scored 16 points in the first quarter, hitting four three-pointers, and the Lakers built a lead that kept growing through the second and third quarters. By the time there were 90 seconds left in the third quarter, Los Angeles led Toronto 102-76, and the game looked decided. The home crowd at Crypto.com Arena was already settling into what felt like a routine home win, the kind of night when a star performance can be admired without tension.

Toronto had other ideas. The Raptors chipped away through the fourth quarter, trimming a 26-point deficit to single digits and forcing the Lakers to rethink their closing plan. Doncic and Reaves led a quick 9-1 rally to restore some breathing room, but the drama was not over. With 1:43 to play, the Lakers removed their starters with a 16-point lead, only for Toronto's reserves to score 11 points in 40 seconds, cutting the deficit to 125-120. That flurry forced Doncic, Reaves and Kessler back onto the floor for the final few possessions, and Los Angeles finally closed out a 131-125 win that was far closer than the third-quarter score suggested.

The final numbers told the story of two games in one. Doncic finished with 45 points on 12-of-23 shooting, including 8-of-15 from three-point range, plus 15 rebounds, six assists, five steals and a block. It was his second game with the Lakers in which he produced at least 40 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, a combination no other Lakers player has reached since the 1982-83 season. Reaves scored 19 points, Kessler added 16 points and 15 rebounds, and the Lakers survived a night when they had blown a 25-point lead in a 17-point loss at Golden State only two days earlier, on Friday.

For Toronto, Barnes led the way with 29 points, Barrett added 22, and the Raptors showed the resilience that has kept them competitive on the road even in defeat. The loss opened a four-game road trip with a defeat, and it came without Kawhi Leonard, who missed his fourth straight game for Toronto with a knee injury. Leonard also will not play when the Raptors visit the Intuit Dome on Monday to face the Clippers, a subplot that will follow Toronto into the next game.

Background and Context

Doncic's start to the 2026-27 season has been prolific even by his standards. He has now scored at least 37 points in four consecutive games, a run that has pushed him to the top of the early NBA scoring race. Sunday's 45-point night followed a week in which the Lakers had already seen both sides of life with a superstar-led team: a comeback win, a heavy defeat after surrendering a big lead, and now a win that required its star to return late to finish the job.

The Lakers' recent history makes the late scare feel familiar. On Friday at Golden State, Los Angeles blew a 25-point lead in a 17-point loss, a result that put the spotlight on focus and closing. On Sunday, a different kind of lapse appeared: a huge third-quarter lead, a relaxed finish, and then a reserves-led Toronto surge that turned a celebration into a scramble. The difference this time was that the starters returned in time, and Doncic's presence alone changed the geometry of the final possessions.

Kessler's contribution should not be overlooked. The Lakers centre, acquired to give Los Angeles size and rebounding, finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds, matching Doncic on the glass and giving the Lakers a second option when Toronto tried to speed the game up. Reaves, meanwhile, continued his role as the secondary creator, scoring 19 points and helping steady the offence when the Raptors pressed.

Toronto's side of the story is also instructive. The Raptors have lost three of their last four games, but they have not stopped competing. Barnes and Barrett carried the scoring load, the bench produced a late burst that nearly stole the game, and the team leaves Los Angeles with a reminder that no lead in this league is safe. That lesson will travel with them to Inglewood on Monday night.

Luka Doncic 45 Points: A Scoring Run That Keeps Growing

The focus keyword of this story is simple, because the performance demands it: Luka Doncic 45 points. The 45 points were not empty numbers in a blowout. They came with 15 rebounds, the highest rebound total of his season so far, and with five steals that showed his activity at the other end. Eight three-pointers on 15 attempts kept Toronto's defence stretched, and his first-quarter burst, 16 points with four threes, forced the Raptors to adjust their coverage for the rest of the night.

What makes the run notable is its consistency. Four straight games with at least 37 points is a stretch that few players sustain, and Doncic is doing it while also leading the offence as a playmaker. Six assists on Sunday do not fully capture his influence, because his gravity as a scorer creates the open looks that teammates convert. When he is hitting step-back threes and driving into the paint, defences collapse, and the Lakers' supporting cast gets cleaner chances.

There is also a historical footnote worth noting. Producing at least 40 points, 10 rebounds and five steals twice with the Lakers puts Doncic in rare company for the franchise, with no other Lakers player reaching all three marks in a single game since the 1982-83 season. That is a long window, and it underlines how complete Sunday's line was, even if the final minutes were messier than the Lakers wanted.

Reactions and Quotes

The Associated Press report on the game captured the turning point in plain terms: the Lakers led Toronto 102-76 with 90 seconds left in the third quarter, but the Raptors trimmed the deficit to single digits before Doncic and Reaves led a quick 9-1 rally. The report also noted the final twist, that Toronto's reserves scored 11 points in 40 seconds after the Lakers removed their starters with 1:43 to play, trimming a 16-point deficit to 125-120 and forcing Doncic, Reaves and Kessler to return.

Those details matter because they explain why a 45-point night felt like a rescue mission at the end. A star can dominate for three quarters and still be needed in the last minute, and that is what happened in Los Angeles. The Lakers did not panic, but they did have to re-insert their best players, and that is a coaching decision that tells its own story about how quickly a game can change.

Elsewhere on Sunday night, the wider NBA picture also moved. The Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Clippers 124-112 at Chase Center, with Yaxel Lendeborg scoring a team-high 37 points, and the Boston Celtics beat the Orlando Magic 108-97. Those results, reported across the league's Sunday slate, put the Lakers' win in context: a busy night, several contenders in action, and the Western Conference standings shifting game by game.

Why It Matters

For the Lakers, the win matters for two reasons. First, it moves them to 5-2, a strong start that keeps them near the top of the Western Conference in the early weeks. Second, and perhaps more important, it is a win that teaches a lesson without costing a game. Los Angeles has now experienced two versions of a blown lead in three days, and the second one ended in victory only because the starters came back. That is a useful warning in November, when habits are formed, rather than in April, when they are exposed.

For Doncic, the game strengthens his early case as the league's most productive scorer. A 45-point, 15-rebound, five-steal night is a complete performance, and doing it while extending a four-game run of at least 37 points suggests this is not a hot streak of one night, but a level he is sustaining. If he maintains anything close to this production, the Lakers' offence will remain one of the hardest in the league to defend.

For Toronto, the loss is less damaging than it might look. The Raptors fought back from 26 points down, found scoring from Barnes and Barrett, and got a late spark from their bench. They also did it without Leonard, whose knee injury remains a factor in their early season. A road trip that starts with a loss can still be salvaged, and the Raptors will get another chance quickly, at the Clippers on Monday night.

What Happens Next

The schedule does not wait. The Lakers host the Miami Heat on Monday night at Crypto.com Arena, a quick turnaround after Sunday's late finish. That game will test whether Los Angeles can carry its third-quarter intensity through a full 48 minutes, and whether Doncic can extend his scoring run to a fifth consecutive game of at least 37 points.

Toronto, meanwhile, visits the Clippers at Intuit Dome on Monday night, still without Leonard, according to the game report. The Raptors will need Barnes and Barrett to produce again, and they will hope the bench energy that nearly stole Sunday's game carries over. For both teams, Monday is a chance to show what Sunday really meant: a warning for the Lakers, and a proof of resilience for the Raptors.

One small footnote from Sunday also deserves a mention. Lakers first-round pick Cameron Carr made his NBA debut in the final 1:43, entering during the late Toronto surge. It was a brief appearance, in unusual circumstances, but it is a milestone for a young player, and a reminder that even a chaotic finish can contain a first.
