Florida flooding has moved Election Day polling places across the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County, so voters heading out on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, should check their assigned precinct before they travel. Supervisors of elections in Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties announced a series of polling location changes after days of heavy rain left roads under standing water, and Palm Beach County confirmed two further moves of its own.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, and in several cases the replacement location is in a different building altogether.

Key Points

• Polling places have moved in Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Palm Beach counties for Election Day, November 3, 2026.
• Indian River County moved Precinct 7 and Precinct 26; St. Lucie County moved precincts in Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie; Martin County moved Precinct 2 to the elections office in Stuart.
• Palm Beach County moved the Casa Rio Clubhouse and Ironhorse Country Club polling places after flooding, and notified affected voters by email and text.
• Port St. Lucie recorded 6 to 10 inches of rain and Sebastian 6 to 9 inches, breaking daily rainfall records in Vero Beach and Fort Pierce.
• A voluntary evacuation was announced for the Rockridge neighbourhood in Indian River County because of flooding and possible wastewater backups.

What Happened

With heavy rain, flash flooding, standing water and some road closures, the supervisors of elections on the Treasure Coast announced several polling location changes for Election Day. The moves were reported by Treasure Coast Newspapers, which published the full replacement list for voters in the three counties.

In Indian River County, voters assigned to Precinct 7, the Sebastian Church of God at 281 Delaware Avenue, will instead vote at Sebastian Elks Lodge No. 2714, at 713 South Fleming Street, which is Precinct 8. Voters assigned to Precinct 26, Morning Star Church at 698 Timber Ridge Trail, will go to the Intergenerational Recreation Center, Room 112, at 1590 Ninth Street Southwest, which is used by Precinct 25.

In St. Lucie County, voters assigned to Precinct 12, the Fort Pierce Masonic Lodge, will go to Precinct 25, Days Inn Midtown, at 3224 South U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce. Precincts 49 and 71, Oak Hammock K-8 School, and Precinct 51, Disabled American Veterans Hall, will all go to Precinct 45, the Port St. Lucie Community Center at 2195 Southeast Airoso Boulevard in Port St. Lucie. Precincts 67 and 86, St. Lucie West Centennial High School, will go to Indian River State College, Veterans Center of Excellence, at 500 Northwest California Boulevard in Port St. Lucie. Precinct 83, the Paula A. Lewis Library, and Precinct 92, the Brennity at Tradition, will go to Tradition Town Hall at 10799 Southwest Civic Lane in Port St. Lucie.

In Martin County, voters assigned to Precinct 2, Grace Presbyterian Church at 1875 Northwest Britt Road, will go to the Martin County Supervisor of Elections Office at 135 Southeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Stuart. Voters with questions in Indian River County can contact the Supervisor of Elections office on 772-226-4700 or visit voteindianriver.gov.

Palm Beach County separately confirmed two late changes. Voters assigned to the Casa Rio Clubhouse in Riviera Beach can instead vote at Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy at 7071 Garden Road. Voters assigned to Ironhorse Country Club in West Palm Beach can vote at the North County Senior Center at 5217 Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens. The elections office said affected voters were notified by email and text.

Background: Florida Flooding Before Election Day

The polling moves are the latest consequence of a stalled low-pressure system that pulled deep tropical moisture over Florida's Atlantic coast over the weekend. It was not a tropical storm or depression, and the National Hurricane Center listed no Atlantic cyclones on Monday, but the rain was extraordinary by any measure.

Further north, Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for seven counties on Monday afternoon, including Brevard, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie. Brevard County gauges showed 16 to 22 inches of rain by Monday afternoon, and Melbourne airport recorded 13 inches over two days. A flood warning remained in effect for Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties into the night of November 2, and a coastal flood advisory was in effect through 7 p.m. on November 3 for Martin and St. Lucie counties, with a high surf advisory and breaking waves of 6 to 7 feet.

Florida Flooding Polling Places: What Voters Need to Know

The practical message for voters is simple: do not assume your usual polling place is open. Check your precinct before leaving home, allow extra travel time, and avoid flooded roads. Rain chances were about 60 percent on Election Day itself and about 50 percent into November 4, so conditions could remain difficult even after the heaviest rain passed.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office announced a voluntary evacuation after 8 p.m. on November 2 for the Rockridge neighbourhood, covering 17th Street to 13th Place and 6th Avenue to Indian River Boulevard, because of flooding and possible wastewater backups. No flood deaths had been reported in the wider emergency, and no general evacuation orders were in place, but officials urged residents in flooded areas to stay put where it was safe and never to drive through flooded roads.

Early voting had already been strong despite the weather: more than 40 percent of Palm Beach County's registered voters had cast ballots by November 1, including nearly 70,000 weekend early voters, and statewide turnout stood at 40 percent, with more than 5.4 million ballots cast.

Reactions

Election officials moved quickly once the scale of the flooding became clear, publishing replacement locations county by county rather than asking voters to guess. In neighbouring Brevard County, Sheriff Wayne Ivey had earlier given voters a direct assurance, saying: "No matter what, everybody will get an opportunity to vote tomorrow." Brevard officials said polling places there were expected to open, even as some elections offices closed and schools shut for the day.

Why It Matters

Polling place changes on the morning of an election can confuse even determined voters, and confusion can cost votes. A voter who goes to the wrong building, finds it closed, and cannot quickly find the replacement site may simply give up, particularly if roads are flooded and travel is slow. That risk is highest in exactly the communities hit hardest by the rain, which is why election offices published street addresses for every replacement site and sent direct notifications in Palm Beach County.

The changes also show how weather, not just politics, can shape a midterm election in Florida's Treasure Coast and Palm Beach County.

What Happens Next

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3. Voters who are in line at their assigned precinct location by the 7 p.m. deadline will be allowed to vote. Anyone unsure of their precinct should check with their county supervisor of elections before travelling, and voters in Indian River County can call 772-226-4700 or visit voteindianriver.gov. Further changes remain possible if roads flood again, so checking on Election Day morning is the safest step.

After the polls close, counting will include mail ballots postmarked by November 3; results in close races may take days to finalise.
