Stephen Curry scored 34 points and the Golden State Warriors completed a remarkable comeback on Monday night, beating the Phoenix Suns 116-113 at Chase Center in San Francisco after trailing by 17 points. The Warriors did not lead until the fourth quarter, yet they still won their fifth game in a row in front of a sellout crowd of 18,064.

Key Points

• Golden State beat Phoenix 116-113 at Chase Center on Monday, November 2, 2026.
• Stephen Curry scored 34 points, including 25 after half-time, with seven assists and six rebounds.
• The Warriors trailed by 17 points in the second quarter and did not lead until the fourth quarter.
• Draymond Green was ejected two minutes into the second half after two technical fouls.

• Devin Booker led Phoenix with 26 points before fouling out with 58 seconds remaining.

What Happened

Phoenix started far sharper. The Suns won the first quarter 31-19 and kept pushing in the second, and when Booker hit a jumper to make it 55-39 with 3:47 left before half-time, the visitors had their largest lead of the night. Golden State answered with a 12-0 run before the break, cutting the gap to 57-51 at half-time and giving the home crowd something to believe in.

The turning point came early in the third quarter. Green, who had only four points, was ejected two minutes after the restart for two technical fouls, and at that moment Golden State trailed 68-57. Rather than falling apart, the Warriors raised their energy immediately, went on a 16-5 run to tie the game at 73, and turned the contest into a back-and-forth battle. Golden State outscored Phoenix 42-36 in the third quarter and finally took its first lead on the first possession of the fourth, when Bassey cut to the basket and finished off a Curry assist to make it 95-93.

Neither team led by more than seven points after that, and the finish was decided by small plays. Georges Niang broke the fifth tie of the fourth quarter with a three-pointer, and after Curry missed a three-point attempt, De'Anthony Melton grabbed the offensive rebound and found Niang open for a 24-foot shot that put Golden State ahead for good at 109-106 with 3:54 remaining. Curry made two free throws with 2:06 left, stole the ball from Booker, and Podziemski converted the turnover into two more foul shots for a 113-108 lead with 1:47 to play. Jalen Green dunked to cut the lead to 113-112 with 14.2 seconds left, but Curry added free throws in the closing seconds and Collin Gillespie's 36-foot attempt at the buzzer, which would have forced overtime, missed.

Background: Warriors Suns and a Fast Reversal of Fortune

The result continued a sharp reversal for both teams. Golden State started the season 0-3, but this victory made it five wins in a row and lifted the Warriors to 5-3. Phoenix, by contrast, fell to 1-4 and lost a third straight game. The Suns' only win this season remains their 131-122 victory over the Warriors in Phoenix on October 24, a game in which Golden State rested Curry, Green, Al Horford and Podziemski.

Monday's game was also the middle point of a six-game homestand for the Warriors, and it followed a very different win on Sunday. Golden State beat the Los Angeles Clippers 124-112 without Curry and Green, with rookie Yaxel Lendeborg scoring 37 points. On Monday, with Curry and Green back after rest for knee and back management, Lendeborg was held to 16 points on 3-of-10 shooting, and the win had to come another way. For Phoenix, the pattern is a concern: the Suns have started the same five players in every game this season, yet they have lost four of five and could not protect a 17-point lead.

Curry Takes Over After a Slow Start

Curry's performance was a game of two halves. He scored only nine points before half-time and did not look like a player who had just been rested. After the break he was a different player, scoring 25 points, hitting five three-pointers, shooting 9-of-21 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, where he had made his first 51 attempts of the season before missing his final try with five seconds left. It was his third 30-point game of the season, following scores of 44 and 31 in his previous two games, giving him the 25th three-game run of 30 or more points in his career.

Podziemski gave Curry the support he needed, scoring 20 points with 14 after half-time, while Bassey produced the best scoring night of his career. Bassey finished 7-of-10 from the field for 19 points and added a team-high eight rebounds, filling many of the minutes left by Green's ejection. His biggest contributions came when the game was tightest: the assist that gave Golden State its first lead, the steal from Booker in the final two minutes, and the calm free throws that closed the game.

Reactions and the Talking Points

Green's ejection will dominate much of the discussion around this game. Golden State was already trailing when it happened, and losing a veteran leader and defensive organiser in a testy game featuring three technical fouls could easily have broken the home team's resistance. Instead, the Warriors played with more pace and purpose immediately afterwards, and the 16-5 run that followed changed the feel of the night.

Phoenix will also face questions about how it lost control. The Suns led by 17 points, led 57-51 at half-time and still led by 11 when Green was ejected. They then allowed Golden State back into the game, lost Booker to fouls with 58 seconds left, and could not get a clean final shot. Brooks finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, and Miles Bridges added 21, but the Suns' late execution did not match their strong start.

Why It Matters

Early-season games do not decide championships, but this one told us something real about both teams. Golden State's five-game winning streak has turned a poor start into a 5-3 record and given the Warriors momentum in the middle of a long homestand. Winning a game in which they trailed by 17, lost Green early in the second half and did not lead until the fourth quarter is the kind of result that builds belief in a locker room.

For Phoenix, the defeat matters because of the way it happened. Losing after leading by 17 leaves the Suns at 1-4 with pressure building before a long stretch at home. Curry, at the stage of his career when rest games are part of the plan, showed again that he can still take over a game in a single half, and Bassey's career night showed that Golden State's bench can produce when called upon.

What Happens Next

Golden State continues its six-game homestand, with the chance to extend a five-game winning streak and keep climbing in the Western Conference. The Warriors will hope Green's ejection does not bring further consequences, and they will want a cleaner start next time after trailing for so long on Monday.

Phoenix begins a season-long seven-game homestand on November 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers, the team that beat the Suns by 41 points in their season opener in Portland on October 21. That stretch will test whether this Suns team can turn talent into wins, and whether it can hold a lead when a game gets tense. The two teams will meet again later in the season, and Monday's game has set the tone: Phoenix can beat Golden State, as it proved on October 24, but Golden State can beat Phoenix even from 17 points down.
