What Happened

The Hawks started fast in Washington, scoring 37 points in the opening quarter and finding open looks from beyond the arc. That early burst gave the visitors a 37-32 lead after 12 minutes, and although Washington responded in the second quarter, Atlanta still went into half-time ahead 68-61. The visitors' steadier shooting and greater balance across the line-up were already clear by the break.

The decisive stretch came with a 13-0 run spanning the first and second quarters. Runs like that change the feel of a road game: the crowd quiets, the home side starts rushing its shots, and the visiting team grows in confidence with every stop. Atlanta used that run to establish control, and even when Washington pushed back, the Hawks never surrendered the lead on their way to a 16-point advantage.

After half-time the pattern continued. Atlanta won the third quarter narrowly, 25-24, which was enough to protect its lead and keep Washington at arm's length, as the Wizards could not produce the big surge they needed. In the fourth quarter Atlanta finished the job, outscoring Washington 27-20 to turn a solid performance into a convincing final margin and a 120-105 win.

Background and Context

Road wins in the NBA are never easy, and winning by 15 points in another team's building is a useful marker of a team playing with confidence. Atlanta arrived in Washington and played like the team in control from the opening tip, setting the pace early and dictating the terms of the game. The Hawks scored at least 25 points in every quarter and never endured a long scoring drought that would have allowed Washington to seize momentum.

The spread of Atlanta's scoring also mattered. When one player scores 26, another adds 15 with five rebounds and five assists, and a third contributes a double-double built on 16 rebounds, the opposition cannot simply focus on stopping a single threat. Washington had to account for Atlanta's shooting, its playmaking and its work on the glass at the same time, and that breadth proved too much over the course of the night.

Hawks Beat Wizards 120-105: Alexander-Walker Leads Atlanta

Alexander-Walker's performance was the headline of the Hawks beat Wizards 120-105 result, and the numbers explain why. His 26 points came on 9-of-20 shooting, and six of those nine baskets were three-pointers, so most of his scoring came from long range. That kind of perimeter shooting stretches a defence, forces defenders to close out harder, and opens space for team-mates to cut and drive.

Behind him, McCollum's 15 points, five rebounds and five assists showed the value of an all-round contributor who scores, rebounds and creates at the same time. Okongwu's contribution was equally important in a different way: 14 points and 16 rebounds gave Atlanta a physical presence inside, second chances on offence and a defensive anchor on the glass. Together, those three performances covered outside shooting, playmaking and interior strength.

Reactions and What the Performances Show

No post-game quotations were included in the game recap for this match, so the clearest reading of the result comes from the box score and from how the game unfolded. Atlanta delivered when the game was there to be won — the early run, the steady second half and the controlled fourth quarter all point to a team that executed its plan and stayed composed on the road.

Davis led Washington with 26 points and 10 rebounds on 12-of-19 shooting, an efficient double-double, while George added 25 points, four rebounds and seven assists and Young contributed 18 points and six assists. Those three performances kept Washington competitive, but they were not enough to overcome Atlanta's wider spread of scoring and its control of the game's key stretches.

Why It Matters

This result matters because it shows what Atlanta can do when its shooting, rebounding and playmaking click at the same time. A 15-point road win requires consistent scoring, defensive stops at the right moments and composure when the home crowd tries to lift its team, and Atlanta delivered all three in Washington. For the Wizards, the defeat is a reminder of how quickly a game can slip away when an opponent builds an early lead and refuses to give it back.

What Happens Next

Both teams now move on to the next games on their schedules, with Atlanta looking to carry the confidence of a comfortable road win into its next outing and Washington aiming to respond in front of its own supporters. For the Hawks, the challenge is to repeat the balance shown in Washington; for the Wizards, it is to turn strong individual performances into a collective result with extra defensive stops and supporting scoring.
