DENVER — Nikola Jokic needed only three quarters to take over Wednesday night, posting 32 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists as the Denver Nuggets beat the Toronto Raptors 128-109 at Ball Arena. The three-time Most Valuable Player did not play in the fourth quarter, his work already done, as Denver shot 62 percent from the field and turned a competitive game into a comfortable home win that lifted the Nuggets to 4-3 and dropped Toronto to 4-4.

Key Points

• Nikola Jokic recorded 32 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists through three quarters and sat out the fourth.
• All five Denver starters scored in double figures, and no starter played more than 30 minutes.
• Denver's bench added 42 points, despite DeMar DeRozan being a late scratch with back spasms.
• Toronto unravelled in the third quarter; RJ Barrett led the Raptors with 22 points and Scottie Barnes added 17.
• The win lifted Denver to 4-3, while Toronto fell to 4-4 after the 128-109 defeat at Ball Arena.

What Happened

Toronto led 67-64 at half-time, but the third quarter proved decisive: Denver won it 41-15 to lead 105-82 entering the fourth, and Toronto could not keep pace as Denver shot 62 percent from the field.

Jokic was at the centre of everything. His 32 points came with 10 rebounds and 11 assists, a triple-double completed before the fourth quarter began. With the result no longer in doubt, Denver could rest its star, and no Nuggets starter was asked to play more than 30 minutes — a useful bonus in a long season where rest, health and freshness matter as much as any single result.

Jamal Murray added 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds, giving Denver a second playmaker alongside Jokic, while the balance across the starting five underlined how little the Nuggets needed to rely on one player alone. Every starter reached double figures, and the bench chipped in 42 points, a contribution that kept the pressure on Toronto even when the starters rested.

For Toronto, the night slipped away in the third quarter. RJ Barrett scored 22 points, Scottie Barnes added 17, and Collin Murray-Boyles and Immanuel Quickley scored 13 points each, but the Raptors could not find the stops they needed. When Denver's lead grew, Toronto's offence could not produce a run big enough to change the shape of the game, and the final quarter became a formality.

Background and Context

Denver came into Wednesday's game looking for steadiness after a mixed start to the season, and a home win built on ball movement and efficient shooting is exactly the kind of performance the Nuggets have built their identity around. With Jokic directing the offence, Denver rarely needs to force difficult shots; when the ball moves and the supporting cast scores, the Nuggets are difficult to beat, especially at Ball Arena.

Toronto, meanwhile, arrived in Denver at 4-3, hoping to keep its early-season momentum going on the road. Road wins in the Western Conference are never easy, and the Raptors found that out against a Denver side that punished every defensive lapse. Denver did it even without DeMar DeRozan, a late scratch with back spasms, as rookies Trevon Brazile and Bryce Hopkins stepped in, Hopkins scoring 18 points.

Nikola Jokic Triple-Double Sets the Tone

A triple-double in three quarters is a statement in itself, but the way Jokic reached it mattered more than the numbers alone. His 10 rebounds helped Denver control the glass and start its offence quickly, while his 11 assists turned good positions into easy baskets for teammates. When a centre passes like a guard and scores like a forward, defences are forced to choose — and against Toronto, neither choice worked.

Jokic's efficiency also allowed Denver to manage minutes across the roster. With no starter playing more than 30 minutes, the Nuggets left the arena with a win and with fresh legs, a combination every team wants in November.

Reactions and What the Result Means

Within the game itself, the reaction was written in the rotations: Denver could sit Jokic for the entire fourth quarter, and Toronto could do little but play out the final minutes. That is the clearest sign of a game decided early, and it reflected a night when one team executed its plan and the other could not find an answer in the decisive third quarter.

For Denver, the encouraging signs went beyond Jokic. Five starters in double figures, 42 bench points and a shooting night of 62 percent suggest an offence in rhythm. For Toronto, the concern will be the third-quarter collapse: a team that stays close for a half must find a way to survive the stretch when a home crowd and a star player take over, and on Wednesday the Raptors could not.

Why It Matters

Early-season wins like this matter because they build habits. Denver's ball movement, balanced scoring and bench production are the traits that carry teams through long road trips and tight playoff races later in the year. A 128-109 home win, achieved without overworking the starters, is a useful building block, not just another line in the standings.

For Toronto, the defeat is a measure of where the Raptors stand against one of the West's best teams. Falling to 4-4 is no disaster in November, but the manner of the loss — a third-quarter slide and no sustained response — will be the part coaches focus on. The Raptors have shown they can score, with Barrett and Barnes leading the way, but consistency across four quarters remains the test.

What Happens Next

Denver will look to build on this win and keep its home form strong, with the balance of this performance — star production, starter depth and bench scoring — the template to repeat. Toronto, now 4-4, will want a swift response in its next outing, with a steadier third quarter and a healthier roster high on the list of priorities.

Both teams will also watch the injury news closely. DeRozan's back spasms will be monitored by Toronto, while Denver will be pleased simply to have come through a comfortable win with its starters rested. In a season that rewards depth and health, Wednesday night gave the Nuggets both.
