What Happened

Calgary looked ready to end the Ducks' run when the Flames took a lead into the late stages. Anaheim answered with four unanswered goals, and Gauthier broke the deadlock with 1:34 left in the third period. Nikita Nesterenko sealed the 5-3 win with an empty-net goal, closing a perfect three-game road trip and a fourth straight victory.

In Buffalo, Norris scored twice to set the tone after six games without a goal, and the Sabres never looked back. Owen Power added three assists from the blue line, Rasmus Dahlin scored, and Jack Quinn added a goal and an assist. Columbus got a goal and an assist from Kent Johnson and a power-play goal from Zach Werenski, but slipped to 7-8-0.

Background and Context

The last team to score at least five goals in seven straight games was the 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins, who went on to win the Stanley Cup behind Mario Lemieux. Anaheim's version is built on a young core: Gauthier, 22, has scored in five straight games, Leo Carlsson anchors the top line, and Jeff Malott, Tristan Luneau and Nesterenko show scoring throughout the lineup. The four-game winning streak and the perfect road trip point to a team growing in confidence.

Gauthier recorded a team-record second straight hat trick against Vancouver earlier in the week, and his winner in Calgary kept both streaks alive on the same night. In Buffalo, the Sabres have now won four of five, and Norris ending his drought with Power producing three assists points to a roster finding its rhythm.

Ducks Flames: Seven Straight Games With Five Goals

Friday's five goals came in different ways: even-strength finishes from across the lineup, a late winner from the team's hottest scorer, and an empty-net goal to close it out. The four unanswered goals show a team that does not panic when it falls behind, and Dustin Wolf's 24 saves for Calgary underline how relentlessly Anaheim is generating chances. The 1991-92 Penguins are remembered as one of the great offensive teams of the modern era, and Anaheim joining them in the record book is a statement about where this young roster is heading. Streaks like this eventually end, and the test will be whether the Ducks can keep winning when the goals dry up, but for now, they have not.

Reactions and Quotes

No post-game player or coach quotes were carried in the wire reports checked for this roundup, so there are no direct reactions to report from either dressing room. Anaheim will take the belief that it can win on the road when trailing late. Calgary will take the frustration of a lead lost to four unanswered goals. Buffalo will take a comfortable home win and a scorer back on the scoresheet, while Columbus will look at a 5-2 defeat in which it was second best for long stretches.

Why It Matters

Scoring runs like Anaheim's are rare enough to change how the league looks at a team. The Ducks are no longer a surprise; they are a team opponents must plan for, and a fourth straight win on a perfect road trip builds belief that carries into the spring. Gauthier's five-game goal streak gives Anaheim a genuine star to build around, and the depth scoring behind him makes the Ducks harder to shut down. For Buffalo, four wins in five shows a team that was struggling for consistency starting to string results together.

What Happens Next

Anaheim returns home with a four-game winning streak and the longest active scoring run in the league, and every opponent will now game-plan specifically to stop the five-goal streak. Calgary will look to regroup, and Wolf will want a bounce-back performance at home. Buffalo will try to extend its good run, while Columbus needs a response at 7-8-0. The rematches will carry extra edge: Calgary owes Anaheim one, and Columbus owes Buffalo one.
