Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points in just 29 minutes as the Oklahoma City Thunder routed the Washington Wizards 114-75 on Saturday night, holding Washington to the lowest points total by any team in the NBA this season.

Key Points

• The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Washington Wizards 114-75 on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
• Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two-time reigning NBA MVP, scored a game-high 30 points and nine assists in 29 minutes.
• Washington's 75 points were the lowest total scored by any NBA team this season.
• Jared McCain added 19 points off the bench, and rookie Aday Mara had 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
• AJ Dybantsa led the Wizards with 19 points.

What Happened

The Thunder took control early at Paycom Center and never let go. Gilgeous-Alexander, playing limited minutes in a game decided long before the final buzzer, still produced a game-high 30 points with nine assists, running the offence with the calm authority that has defined his back-to-back MVP seasons.

Oklahoma City's depth did the rest. Jared McCain scored 19 points off the bench, giving the Thunder a second scoring option whenever Gilgeous-Alexander rested, while rookie Aday Mara added 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Washington's attack stalled badly. The Wizards finished on 75 points, the lowest total any NBA team has managed this season, and their leading scorer, AJ Dybantsa, finished with 19 points in a losing effort. The 39-point margin was the widest of Saturday's seven NBA games. Oklahoma City did it without Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace, all sidelined through injury.

Background and Context

The Thunder arrived at this game as one of the league's standard-bearers. Gilgeous-Alexander has won the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in each of the past two seasons, and Oklahoma City has built its success around his scoring, playmaking and composure in big moments. Around him, the Thunder have built one of the deepest rosters in the league, which is why they can lose three starters and still win by 39 points.

Those absences are significant. Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace both went down with serious injuries in late October, each needing surgery, while Holmgren has also been unavailable. In most seasons, losing three players of that calibre would derail a team.

Washington, by contrast, is a team in a different phase. The Wizards are building around young talent, and Dybantsa, the rookie, has been one of their bright spots this season. He starred in a 95-79 win over the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Cup opener. But Saturday showed the gap between a rebuilding side and a championship-calibre opponent.

Thunder Wizards 114-75: Inside the 39-Point Rout

The scale of the win was the story. A 39-point margin is rare in the modern NBA, where three-point shooting can keep almost any game close, and it was the most lopsided result of Saturday's seven-game schedule. The Thunder did it without pushing their star beyond 29 minutes.

Gilgeous-Alexander's efficiency was the key. Thirty points in 29 minutes, with nine assists, is the kind of line that shows a player in total control: scoring when the defence gives him room, creating for others when it does not, and never forcing the issue. His nine assists also showed how the Thunder shared the ball.

Mara's performance deserves attention too. The rookie centre's 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists came in a game where Oklahoma City was already short-handed in the front court, and his energy around the basket gave the Thunder a presence they needed. For Washington, the numbers were grim. Dybantsa's 19 points showed his promise again, but the Wizards had no second option, and their offence never found a way through Oklahoma City's defence.

Reactions and Quotes

No post-game quotes from either side were included in the match reports used for this article, so the reaction to the result is best read in the numbers and in what the game means for both teams. For Oklahoma City, the takeaway is depth: a 39-point win without three injured starters shows a roster that can win in different ways, and a bench that is ready when called upon.

For Washington, the takeaway is the scale of the rebuild still ahead. Dybantsa continues to produce, and his 19 points against the league's best defence were a genuine bright spot, but the Wizards need more scoring and more composure around him if nights like this are not to repeat themselves on the road. Around the league, the result will have been noted: stopping Gilgeous-Alexander is not enough.

Why It Matters

This game matters because it shows the gap at the top of the NBA. The Thunder are not just winning; they are winning big while short-handed, and they are doing it with a style that suggests their success is built to last. A team that can rest its MVP after 29 minutes and still win by 39 points has real depth, and depth is what carries sides through long seasons and deep playoff runs.

It also matters for the Wizards, though for different reasons. Washington's season is about development, and Dybantsa's continued progress is the priority. Finally, the 75-point total is a marker for the season: the lowest score any NBA team has managed so far this year, and a reference point for defensive performances.

What Happens Next

Oklahoma City will look to carry this form into its next games, with the focus on keeping its injured players on track for a return. Williams and Wallace are both recovering from surgery, and Holmgren's absence remains a factor, so the Thunder will continue to lean on their bench until the roster is whole again.

Washington, meanwhile, must regroup quickly. The Wizards will want to put this defeat behind them and get back to the kind of basketball that saw them beat Charlotte in the NBA Cup opener, with Dybantsa again at the centre of their plans. The young core needs games like Saturday to learn from, but it also needs wins to build belief. The message from Paycom Center was clear: the Thunder are still the team to beat.
