The Little Giant ladder recall now covers about 3.66 million ladders across the United States after federal safety regulators found the locks holding the legs in place can fail without warning. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall on Thursday, November 5, 2026, saying ladders fitted with Rapid Locks can suddenly retract while someone is standing on them. Little Giant has received 25 reports of ladders retracting, including 19 injury reports, three involving serious head injuries. The recall, numbered 27-067, covers ladders sold from December 2015 through October 2026 at Lowe’s, Costco, Amazon and other major retailers.

Key Points

• The CPSC recalled about 3,662,000 Little Giant ladders fitted with Rapid Locks, under recall number 27-067, announced Thursday, November 5, 2026.
• Little Giant received 25 reports of ladders suddenly retracting, including 19 injury reports: three head injuries and 16 other injuries.
• Head injuries include traumatic brain injury, skull fractures, concussions, vision loss, hearing loss and cognitive impairment.
• The recall covers 11 models in more than 130 variants, priced $100 to $1,000, sold at Lowe’s, Costco, Amazon and other retailers.
• Owners should stop using an affected ladder and request a free repair kit; a replacement or refund is available if a lock still fails.

What Happened

The recall centres on the Rapid Locks on Little Giant’s adjustable ladders. The locks hold each leg at the height the user sets and are supposed to click firmly into place before anyone climbs. The commission says the locks can fail to engage fully, and when that happens the ladder can retract suddenly under the user’s weight. There is no warning, and the fall can come from the top of the ladder.

Three people suffered head injuries, including traumatic brain injury, skull fractures, concussions, vision loss, hearing loss and cognitive impairment. The other 16 injury reports involved joint or bone fractures, cuts and bruising. The company has also received 39 reports in total of Rapid Locks not working properly, including cases where no one was hurt.

Background: A Decade of Sales and a Trusted Brand

Little Giant is one of the best-known ladder brands in the United States, and its multi-position ladders are a familiar sight in garages, workshops and on work trucks. One ladder can serve as a stepladder, an extension ladder or a scaffold support, with legs adjusted independently so it stands level on stairs or uneven ground. That flexibility depends entirely on the Rapid Locks, the spring-loaded mechanisms on each leg that hold the chosen height.

The recalled ladders were sold from December 2015 through October 2026, at prices from about $100 to $1,000. Safety regulators have repeatedly warned that ladder falls are among the leading causes of serious home injuries in the United States.

Little Giant Ladder Recall: Which Models Are Affected

The recall covers 11 models fitted with Rapid Locks: Adjustable Fortress 2.0, Conquest 2.0, Dark Horse 2.0, Epic, King Kombo XT, Leveler, MegaLite, MegaLite+, Multi, Quantum and Vector, in more than 130 variants. It applies only to ladders without an orange rectangular “QC” sticker on the rail above a Rapid Lock. If the sticker is there, the ladder is not part of this recall.

Owners should check the rail above each Rapid Lock before using the ladder again, even if it has been used without incident for years: the failure mode is a lock that looks engaged but is not. The remedy is a free repair kit with warning labels and the parts to fix the locks. If a lock still fails after the kit is fitted and the ladder evaluated, Little Giant will provide a replacement or a refund, with a full refund for ladders bought within the past 12 months.

Reactions: Little Giant Says Only a Small Number of Locks Were Affected

Little Giant has said it identified only a very small number of cases in which the locks were not properly engaged, and that it began the recall out of caution. But with 3.66 million ladders covered, even a small failure rate means thousands of ladders in American homes could retract without warning.

The commission’s advice is more direct: stop using the affected ladders immediately and wait for the free repair kit before climbing again. It has reported no deaths linked to the fault, but the injury list already includes traumatic brain injury and skull fractures. The recall follows other recent safety actions, including the recall of 176,000 Gourmia air fryer ovens after 40 burn injuries were reported, and the nationwide recall of more than 13,000 bottles of atorvastatin.

Why It Matters

This recall matters because of the combination of scale, severity and silence. A ladder is one of the most ordinary tools in an American home, used by people who trust it with their full weight. A lock that fails without warning turns that trust into a fall, and the injuries already reported show how serious the consequences can be.

About 3.66 million ladders is an enormous recall, and the 25 retraction reports are almost certainly an undercount, because many falls go unreported. With ladders sold for more than ten years, the affected units are already in people’s homes, and the risk will only fall when owners check their ladders and fit the repair kit.

What Happens Next

Owners should first check for the orange “QC” sticker on the rail above a Rapid Lock. If it is missing, stop using the ladder and contact Little Giant for the free repair kit, which should be fitted exactly as instructed before the ladder is used again.

If a lock still fails after the kit is applied, Little Giant will offer a replacement or a refund, with the full purchase price for ladders bought within the past 12 months. The commission will keep monitoring reports, Anyone who has fallen from a Little Giant ladder should report it through the commission’s SaferProducts.gov portal.
